What an FSSAI licence is — and why it's mandatory.
What is FSSAI?
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is the government body that regulates food safety under the FSS Act, 2006. Any food business in India must be registered or licensed with it.
Why you need it
An FSSAI licence is a legal requirement to run a food business. It protects your customers, builds trust in your brand, and keeps you clear of penalties and closure.
Basic, State & Central
The licence type depends on your turnover and scale — Basic up to ₹1.5 crore, State up to ₹50 crore, Central above that or for multi-state and import/export businesses.
Questions food owners ask us.
Which FSSAI licence do I need?
It depends on your annual turnover and scale — Basic Registration up to ₹1.5 crore, State Licence from ₹1.5 crore to ₹50 crore, and Central Licence above ₹50 crore or for multi-state, import and export businesses. Apply and our consultant will confirm the exact one for you.
How long does it take?
Basic Registration is typically the fastest; State and Central licences take longer as they involve inspection and more documents. We give you an honest timeline for your category on the first call and track it to issuance.
What documents will I need?
Nothing to start — you apply with a few basic details. Once your file opens, your consultant sends a short checklist on WhatsApp (ID proof, address proof, photo, business details) tailored to your licence type.
How much does it cost?
Fees depend on your business type and the licence duration you choose. We quote a clear, all-in figure on your token — no hidden charges.
Is CAREALL the one issuing the licence?
No. The FSSAI licence is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Government of India. CAREALL Digital Services is your consultant — we prepare, file and track your application on the FoSCoS portal on your behalf.
Do I need to renew my FSSAI licence?
Since the 2026 rules, FSSAI licences no longer expire — they stay valid until surrendered or suspended. You keep yours active by paying the annual fee; miss it and the licence is suspended. If you hold a pre-2026 licence with an expiry date, message us on WhatsApp with your licence number and we will keep it active.
